Deep-Fried Oreo Recipe

Nothing like creating a fair food favourite right from the comfort of your own home!

image

Follow the easy steps below to make this creation yourself.

What you will need:

1 cup of pancake mix

2/3 cup of milk

1 egg 2 tsps of vegetable oil

1 box of Oreo cookies

Vegetable oil for frying

Confectioner’s sugar (optional)

Prep:

  • Freeze your Oreo cookies for 1 hour
  • Fill a durable pot with 2-3 inches of cooking oil (on medium heat or to about 375°F)
  • Wisk pancake mix until smooth
  • Dip one cookie at a time in the batter (important step so your cookies don’t get soggy sitting in the mix) coating it well
  • Carefully drop your coated cookies in the hot oil flip once until each side is golden brown (it doesn’t take long!)
  • Remove cookies from hot oil with tongs (be careful) and place on a paper towel
  • Arrange on a platter and dust with confectioner’s sugar
  • Best enjoyed warm and maybe with a side of vanilla ice cream!

OOTD: Wear to work wardrobe

I’m a sucker for florals and bright colours! When I found this skirt on sale for $12.99 at Bananna Republic it was an instant match made in heaven!

image

I paired it with a delicate lace tank with silver details from H & M, a maroon coloured blazer from Suzy Shier and my other favourite part to this outfit, THE SHOES!

image

I picked up these beautiful lace-up tassel block heels in cobalt blue from Winners (only $39.99.) They matched the skirt perfectly and added the perfect pop to complete my look!

I couldn’t resist twirling in this skirt and had a major Marilyn moment!

Come back soon for a visit!

Fashion Fridays with Erica Wark

Fashion Fridays with Erica Wark

A few weeks ago I was beyond lucky to win a contest which entailed a $500 shopping spree with fashion expert and stylist Erica Wark at Bramalea City Centre!

FullSizeRender (39)

I love to shop and I love following along with Erica on Instagam, Twitter and her T.V segments so I knew I was in for a great day.

IMG_0025 (1)

IMG_0024

Of course I had to accessorize for spring shopping with this gorgeous spring necklace from Obsessions Fashion.

Erica and I started off in BCBG, which is somewhere I’ve always walked by and admired but never bought anything from. Erica asked if there was anything I was looking for in particular, but I couldn’t think on the spot. She started picking out some black blazers and then it reminded me that I was due for a new one. I usually don’t spend tons on blazers and have had the same one for a few years now so it was time to get rid of the old and in with the new! There were three different styles that Erica had me try on. One of my favourites was a Mackage inspired blazer with leather sleeves. However, I decided to be reasonable knowing the price of these blazers and opt for a classic black blazer that is more practical for my everyday life which I would wear to work. I also tried on some absolutely stunning shift dresses in this spring/summer’s hottest patterns and colours! After debating back and forth about one dress and the blazer we decided to put these items on hold and check out some other stores. Since BCBG was the first store we hit I didn’t want to spend all my money in one place, literally.

So off we went to H & M next. H & M is my go-to for not only trendy, in-style items but also affordable basics. There was a beautiful display at the front of the store with items from their summer collection. The vibrant hues and boho vibes were to die for! There were a few things that stood out to me right away but since I knew I would probably never get this opportunity again I let Erica take the lead to pick out items for me. And boy, was I ever happy that I did. On one of the mannequins was a red-y-orange dress with tassels on the sleeves. Never in a million years would I ever think to try this one on, let alone buy it! This was an item that I trusted Erica’s expertise on and decided to try it on. I don’t wear my close exceptionally tight but this dress is extremely flowy. I asked Erica’s advice about it and let me know that I was able to pull it off because of my height and figure. I’m so glad I trusted her advice with this one as I really went out of my comfort zone with it! I cannot wait to rock this dress for my Portugal trip at the end of the summer, I can tell you that this dress has Portugal written all over it (pictures to come of course!) Some other great advice I got while trying on some clothes was that again, because of my height and long-torso I can rock cropped jackets. I’ve always steered away from them all this time when really they are the perfect compliment to my body. I picked up two really great blazers for work, majorly on sale too!

Chronicles from the change room, SO much fun! The black lace off-the-shoulder top was one of my favourite pics from H&M.

Twinning in the changeroom!

Next we were off to Express. Erica went straight for the jeans. Oh the jeans!! Erica warned me that once I owned a pair of these they would change my world and I would fall in love. Once I tried them on I knew exactly why she had said that. They were so comfortable and looked like expensive designer jeans without the price tag! They go for around $78, but that day there was buy 1 get one 50% off, so of course I jumped at that opportunity. Erica picked out a few different styles and colours for me, but ultimately left it up to me for the colours as she said I know my wardrobe best. I went with a classic black skinny jean and a darker-wash of slightly ripped jeans. I am so so in-love, thank you Erica for introducing me to my new favourite pair(s) of jeans!

I rang through my other items at Express which was a basic three-quarter sleeve top that Erica also recommended as she has one and says she lives in it its so comfortable. After wearing it that night I went home I knew this was a great choice! I also picked up a reverisble tank top, they had a lot of different colours and patterns but I opted for vibrant flowers that reversed to black.

After cashing out at Express we totaled up my receipts while remembering my items on hold at BCBG. Because I had done so well at H & M and Express there was now  enough left for just the blazer.

After our last stop at BCBG with bags in tow, Erica and I got together for some pictures! I am such a fan of these pictures, they really encapsulate the day so perfectly.

CHLOÉ LOVE STORY EDT- VIP BREAKFAST

CHLOÉ LOVE STORY EDT- VIP BREAKFAST

Now this post may be a little late, but I wanted to find the time to really sit down and focus on writing a great piece. It’s been a hectic couple of weeks at work!

Friday morning of the Valentine’s Day weekend I was invited by Dave Lackie to attend Wish Restaurant for the launch of Chloé’s Love Story Eau De Toilette perfume!

FullSizeRender (34)

I was lucky enough to be invited to the Clarins Beauty VIP dinner a few months back and had such a blast! So you can imagine my excitement when I saw a message in my inbox from Dave inviting me to this event! My first time at one of the events I was understandably a little nervous attending a dinner with complete strangers! Little did I know that once I got there I would feel extremely welcomed by individuals who love beauty and blogging just like me! I instantly connected with so many great individuals and continue to keep in contact with them over social media. It was really nice to be able to see friendly, familiar faces again at the VIP breakfast and catch up with everyone from the last event! When Dave plans an event you know it’s going to be nothing but spectacular!

Meeting Dave was the cherry on top of it all! I’ve been following Dave for years and always love his beauty segments on CityLine where he chats about the latest and greatest trends and innovations in beauty as well as beauty launches. The energy that Dave brings to everything that he does is extremely admirable and meeting him in person twice has been the greatest pleasure.  His smile and enthusiasm lights up the room!

IMG_6313

I’m so happy I decided to venture out and attend the event on my own, it’s been a truly amazing experience, thanks Dave!

Here’s my experience at the Chloé  Love Story EDT breakfast…

The second I walked up to the restaurant I instantly fell in love, and I hadn’t even stepped inside yet! My Friday morning was already off to a fantastic start, and it was only going to get better! I captured this picture quickly before going in and thought how fitting it was, seeing as it was Valentine’s Day weekend!

IMG_6127

I had never been to Wish Restaurant before and upon walking in the front entrance I knew it was going to be somewhere I’d have to come back to visit again. It had a very home-ie feel with white couches and beautiful wood grain floors (I could go on and on about the floors and decor!) Let’s just say that a few of us spent most of our time enjoying the decor and exceptional natural light shining in and used it as a photo shoot opportunity.

IMG_6949 (1)

When this is what you are first greeted with walking into the restaurant…you know it’s going to be a great morning!

IMG_6323

Stopping to smell the roses (literally!)

IMG_6320IMG_6321
IMG_6931

When I walked into the seating area I was again instantly drawn to the delicate white decor, dim lighting and ghost chairs (I seriously need these in my life!) The seating was very intimate and just perfect for this event! There were red roses and lots of light pink decor spread throughout the restaurant which really set the tone for the Love Story breakfast in Paris theme.

IMG_6940

I just couldn’t resist taking this picture with Vanessa (Cook & Contour), the lighting and the table was perfect!

IMG_6937

Love Story Eau De Toilette

The star of the breakfast! This bottle is the newest member to join the Chloé fragrance collection. The beautiful undertones of “green floral” and “hints of orange blossom” is what makes it so great to wear every day. It’s a very romantic scent and isn’t overpowering.

IMG_6938

I was so excited to find out that we were being gifted with a 50ML bottle (available @ Hudson’s Bay) of the new Love Story EDT perfume as well as a white leather pouch—I was even obsessed with the packaging, and I hadn’t even gotten inside yet!

I’ve never had Chloé perfume before, but I do know that the design of their bottles are typically very chic! This one hit chic right out of the park! The small gold handle folds down so you can remove the lid and enjoy! It is finished off with a small pale pink ribbon (how very Parisian!)

IMG_6285

Among the beauty lovers and bloggers alike, I also had the chance to speak with Heather Josey—she also complimented me on outfit (major win!!!) Heather is the fragrance buyer for Hudson’s Bay here in Canada. She’s got such a nose for scents that she knew instantly that Love Story was going to be a hit! Talk about scent-sational!

The food, oh the food…

IMG_6941

IMG_6178

I went with the goat cheese arugula salad to start which was to die for! For my main dish I decided on the poached eggs with smashed avocados and goat cheese on gluten free rye bread! It was a three course breakfast (yes you read that correctly, three-course!) but I had to tap out after the second and not get dessert. Don’t worry; I certainly got my sugar fix from the fill your own candy bags before leaving the event!

Outfit Details:

I couldn’t attend a fabulous event without having an equally as fabulous outfit! I drew my inspiration from this outfit from a picture that I actually stumbled across from a Cosmo magazine with Lilly Collins. Lilly is wearing a similar coloured yellow sweater, large statement necklace, and of course the covetable Kate Spade skirt!

FullSizeRender (31)

From Head to Toe:

  • Yellow knit sweater: Zara
  • Cluster necklace- Macy’s
  • Pink leopard skirt- Kate Spade (Winners)—I  just love the playful style of this skirt!
  • Fuchsia heels- Winners
  • Clock cross-body- Kate Spade (Winners) – I was so excited when I picked this up on sale for $60 it recalls for $300.00 (what a steal!). I wasn’t sure at first about pairing this purse with my outfit, but once I was dressed it was just what my playful look needed!
  • Michael Kors pink-faced watch- Winners
  • Gold bow bracelet- Kate Spade Outlet
  • Gold rings- Joe Fresh

IMG_6314

I can’t thank Dave enough for inviting me to this event and for everyone there who made it such a fun morning. What a great way to start off the Friday of a long weekend!

Trip to the art gallery & OOTD!

Trip to the art gallery & OOTD!

The FULL SPECTRUM exhibit is currently on display at the Living Arts Centre in Mississauga  until February 28th. It’s a great activity to add a little local culture to your life! The best part is…it’s FREE!

I first came across this exhibit while reading the local newspaper and the beautiful bright and abstract paintings instantly captured my attention. I thought of how great of an afternoon trip it would be to check it out!

I was pleasantly surprised with the array artwork and definitely recommend going!

^ Such a beautiful wall, I couldn’t resist taking a picture by it!

Details of the Exhibit:

“Full Spectrum highlights a collection of bold and energetic new works in contemporary painting. Through a kaleidoscope of colour and visceral techniques this eclectic group of emerging artists transform the exhibition space into a visual wonderland inundated with exquisite vibrancy. Identifiable as risk takers, artists featured break rules, and in doing so break new ground in painting through a range of subject matter from portraiture to landscape, geometric to the abstract, revealing leading trends in practice.

Artists include: Tyler Armstrong, Julie Gladstone, Erin Loree, Christina Mazzulla, Kyle Tonkens “

I had WAY to much fun posing for pictures in this outfit! When I first saw this fringe sweater on Forever 21.com I wasn’t sure I could pull it off but once I opened it my mind quickly changed. It was final sale so I went out on a limb and bought it and I can say I’m glad I did!  It also vest style as well a grey colour in the sweater and still available online (I’m so tempted to now pick up this one too!) << I’ve provided a direct link above to this sweater on the Canadian website for ease of searching! 🙂

I paired it with a plain white v-neck tee (Urban Planet), ripped black jeans (Blue Notes), layered choker necklace (Spring Shoes), and studded leather ankle booties (Aldo.)

DIY Sharpie Mugs & Catch-All Dishes

DIY Sharpie Mugs & Catch-All Dishes

When I say images of all these beautiful DIY mugs and dishes on Pinterest I just had to put it to the test myself! I love that you can get as creative and personal as you want with these. Oh and did I mention, I made each of these for under $5.00 each!

I decided to recreate a few mugs and a catch-all dish that I had seen online using oil-based Sharpies.

IMG_6336

The designs I opted for just so happened to tie in perfectly with it being Valentine’s Day!

What you will need:

I wanted to draw my designs on bright white mugs and dishes so I went searching for just that. I found both the mug and tray for under $3.00 each at Dollarama!

BE SURE to by oil-based Sharpies otherwise your design will wash off in water. These are a little more expensive than your regular Sharpie but I bought mine from Michaels with a 40% off coupon so they came to around $3.00 each! The good thing about these is that one marker will last you through quite a lot of designs so paying that amount upfront isn’t so bad in the long run!

Steps:

  1. Allow your designs to dry overnight. This will ensure that your paint is completely dry!
  2. Stick them in a cold oven (this step is really important!) Let them heat up with the oven that you will put at 300 degrees.
  3. Bake for 20 minutes
  4. Remove your mugs/trays and allow to cool for 20 minutes (turning off the oven at this point)
  5. Once they are cooled entirely, place them back in the oven and repeat step 2 and 3.
  6. After 20 minutes turn off the oven and allow them to cool in there entirely.
  • You can spray your designs with a sealant when you’re done if you’d like, I opted out of this and they have been just fine. I hand wash my items only with soap and water.

Tip: Place your mugs or trays on a cookie sheet so that you don’t actually touch the paint and ruin it (I did this the first time, woops!) Once it starts to heat up it will be susceptible to smudging.

IMG_5229

For the gold heart-shaped mug:

  • First, you will want to make a heart stencil out of paper that matches the size of your mug.

IMG_5230IMG_5232

  • Next, you can start tracing the gold dots around your stencil. The dots are denser closer to the stencil and began spreading them out more the further away I got.

IMG_5234 (1)

  • Next, remove your stencil and begin to cover the handle in gold dots. I was pretty sporadic with how I did these.

FullSizeRender (25)

IMG_6330

  • On the other side of the mug I used another heart stencil and once again traced gold dots around it, having them more dense closer to the heart and further apart the more you move away. I wish I had made my heart stencil a little smaller only because it took up most of the mug (not a big deal, just something to keep in mind for next time!)
  • If you do happen to make a mistake you can simply take some water and mild soap and erase what you would like to correct. This is easier to do while the marker is still wet so catch it early if you can! For my mug and catch-all dish this came in handy, I think I re-did these ones each three times before I got it exactly how I wanted it!

IMG_5587

FullSizeRender (27)

Here’s the finished product! I absolutely LOVE how this turned out. I really like the gold dot design, it just screams Kate Spade to me!

Eyelash & Lips Mug:

IMG_6331

This design was a little more free-hand. I pretty much just found an image I liked and went with that. I used a piece of tape straight across so that the eyelashes were at the same level and length. I used a black Sharpie for the eyelashes and just free-handed the lashes and used a red Sharpie for the lips, also free-handing. Just when I thought the gold heart mug was my favourite, I see the end product of this one and now I can’t decide!

IMG_6338

Love-Letter Catch-All Dish:

  • I just love catch-all dishes, so when I found this dish at Dollarama for $3.00 I knew exactly what I would do with it!
  • I had seen love-letters and envelope designs on catch-all dishes from West-Elm sold for over $20.00 and thought I could easily make my own for under $5.00 (and so I did!)

IMG_6333

  • Using a couple pieces of Scotch tape helped me make the sharp straight lines that I filled in with a black Sharpie and finished off with a free-handed small red heart.
  • This tray is definitely multipurpose, I decided to use this dish as a serving dish for my Valentine’s Day desserts. I didn’t spray my mugs or dishes with any coating and the markers are non-toxic so they are okay to eat off of! 🙂

MARBLE-ous nails!

MARBLE-ous nails!

This DIY nail art was so simple to do!

All you need are the two colour choices you’d like to go with for the marble effect, a clear top-coat and a toothpick, or another small tool.

I went with white as the base and a dark grey on top.

  1. Paint your nails with the base colour and choice and wait for them to dry entirely!
  2. Simply use a piece of saran-wrap and roll it into a small ball and dab it into the next colour (making sure you dab off the extra)
  3.  Finally, go in with a toothpick and draw random lines in the darker colour to finish off the look!

Seal the look with a clear top-coat and voila!

When I was organizing my closet I came across this shirt that my nails matched perfectly, so of course I couldn’t resist taking a picture!

Emoji Pillows & OOTD

Emoji Pillows & OOTD

I found this fur vest at Winners and I just loved the hints of emerald that it has. It’s a beautiful colour and I pair it as if it was a black vest.

For this particular look, I paired it with a necklace from J-Crew which had different shades of blues and greens in it– to add some pop!

The emoji pillow, I just couldn’t resist! I found this at Urban Planet online for $10– it has since sold out! Seeing as this is one of my favourite emojis to use and Valentine’s is coming up, I knew it was a great purchase!

Mini Donuts!

Mini Donuts!

Who doesn’t love donuts? And who doesn’t love anything mini?

These sweet combination will be an absolute treat whether it’s for a party or just because!

I used the Wilton non-stick 12 cavity donut pan. I picked mine up from Michaels Canada and used a 40% off coupon! I’m always keeping my eye open for really good coupons, and typically every week Michaels has a 40% off one regular-priced item or sometimes even 50%. I wait to buy items such as these until a coupon becomes available!

The batter was really easy to make (I just went on Google and got a simple recipe and did the same for the icing.) I opted for a basic vanilla donut with vanilla icing that I died pink to get the desired effect and used large sprinkles. You can really get creative here and use any sort of flavours or colourings your little heart desires!

I was really pleased with how these turned out and how easy the pan was to use!

These were a huge hit and I keep getting requests to make more! I found that these were more popular compared to if I were to have made full-size donuts, these ones flew off the platter in minutes!

Here are some pictures of the adorable little yummies!
