Weekend Getaway- Queen’s Landing (NOTL)

Weekend Getaway- Queen’s Landing (NOTL)

On the Easter weekend (which also happened to be my Birthday) my boyfriend treated me to a weekend getaway at Queen’s Landing in Niagara-On-The-Lake (“NOTL”). Neither of us had ever been to NOTL before, so you can imagine my excitement when we pulled up to this beautiful hotel for our first NOTL experience. I mean, who could say no to staying in a magical place like this, enjoying the local shops, and to top it all off, local wine tours! It really made me feel like a Birthday princess, and every girl deserves that on their Birthday, and really, any day! Head over to my Instagram to see some posts of our stay!

IMG_5068

We drove up on the Friday morning (it was a holiday for most, so the traffic was lighter than normal). Typically, the drive is about an hour and half from Toronto, not bad at all for a little escape from the big city !

The Hotel:

Queen’s Landing is a beautiful sprawling historic inn that overlooks the water that blends old world class with modern amenities. We even got to take in a beautiful sunset on our last night there down by the water! The hotel isn’t on the main strip which is nice because its less busy and is a short scenic walk passing by old Victorian homes.

(Jacket: Zara,  Sweater: J-Crew, Shoes (Tory Burch), Sunglasses (Quay Australia)

With its large white pillars and beautiful gardens it has a really inviting setting right from the drive in.  I felt like royalty the second we turned the corner and saw the wrought-iron fences and a glimpse of the beautiful grounds. Parking was right out front which was convenient for moving our stuff into the room along with available free valet parking.  There is also WiFi in the public areas, which made blogging on the go a breeze! The lobby presented guests with sophistication and charm with the antique décor and fresh flowers everywhere. There were a lot of couples coming in to check out the Inn as a potential wedding venue and I can certainly see the appeal, it’s absolutely breathtaking!

IMG_5095

Checking-in was a breeze and within minutes we were up to our room where a rose lay on the pillow (such a special touch!) Since it was my Birthday there was also a special bottle of wine and a cheese board in the fridge from my boyfriend’s parents, I was on cloud-nine within minutes of seeing all of this!  There was also complimentary water, which you don’t always see at hotels.

IMG_4141

After settling in and dropping off our bags it was off to a late lunch in the beautiful quaint downtown. Lucky for us it was a nice warm and sunny day so we walked around for hours checking out all the little shops and restaurants. We went to the Angel’s Inn for some pub-style food, it was delicious, and great drinks! I was also told I had to check out the basement as it was supposedly haunted, safe to say I went and came back pretty quick!

Downtown was bustling with tons of people coming to spend a beautiful Good Friday in NOTL. I was told it isn’t typically that busy but because it was a long weekend there were larger crowds than normal. Nonetheless, we were able to enjoyably walk around and grab food and drinks no problem.

IMG_4140IMG_4139

We came across THE cutest storefront and of course I had to snap a pic!

After walking around for a few hours we went back to the room, got changed and decided we’d head into Buffalo for a few hours of shopping! One of the other joys of NOTL is it close proximity to the border. From door to door including going through the border it took only 30 minutes!

We got back to NOTL around 9:30 pm and decided to go back to the Angel’s Inn for a late dinner since we enjoyed it so much at lunch. There was a live band and everyone was singing and dancing, it was a really fun atmosphere at night!

On Saturday we spent the better part of the day on a wine tour, visiting 3 local wineries. The wine tour started around 10:30 so we were up and at ‘em pretty early after catching a quick breakfast. Our tickets were purchased on Travel Zoo and included a trolley car style bus (think San Francisco) to pick us up, take us from winery to winery, and then get us safely home. Unfortunately the weather wasn’t the greatest that day and was raining quite heavily for most of the tour. Luckily most of them were indoors and for one we were only outdoors for a little to check out the amazing vineyard. I would really enjoy coming back in the summer to do another wine tour on a hot sunny day.

IMG_5088

After a few hours wine touring, our bus took us back to our hotel. After a lot of wine tastings it was time to head back to the room to enjoy our cheese platter and more wine, because why stop there? We did a nice walk around the hotel since Friday we didn’t spend much time inside the hotel. We checked out the bar and restaurant along with library, and the pool/gym facilities. We didn’t get a swim in, but it looked lovely, there was also a hot tub and sauna, I guess that just means we will have to go back!

More pineapple spotting!

IMG_5101IMG_5102IMG_5103

I loved all the décor throughout the hotel, but I especially took a liking to this hallway with its palm leaves and bright white colours, I could have taken pictures here all day.

IMG_5096

And then I did…

IMG_4138

We also visited one of the sister hotels of Queen’s Landing, The Prince of Wales. This hotel was just as charming inside, with the most adorable tea-room, definitely stopping in for teatime next time I’m back!

IMG_5226

It was one of those Summer-like Spring days so we stopped in a local cafe for some gelato!

IMG_5225I couldn’t help but stop to say hello to the beautiful horses outside the Prince of Wales Hotel. This beautiful girl was named Cinderella, I loved her right away (look at that adorable little flower!) There were horse and carriage rides available that would take you around town in style! IMG_4604

What better way to greet a horse named Cinderella than by wearing all tulle and sparkly “glass slippers”?!

Before dinner we decided to go down for a walk by the waterfront since the rain cleared out and it ended up being a beautiful night with a stunning sunset. It was only a few minutes to walk down and there was a lot to see along the way. I can only imagine how stunning it is with all the sail boats out in the summer. Our hotel had a wonderful outdoor patio was stunning views of the water.

We decided to take the free private shuttle that you order from the hotel that takes you in and out of downtown. I think this was a great addition, especially when a lot of guests have been out on wine tours!

Couldn’t get enough of this sunset, I could’ve watched it forever!

After dinner and some more drinks (surprise, surprise) we walked back to the hotel since it was only a 10 minute walk or less and was a beautiful night to do it! The front of the hotel was beautifully lit up when we returned, what a perfect way to cap off our magical stay!

IMG_5104

There are 142 guest rooms within the Inn that are all furnished with luxurious bedding, a safe inside the closet along  with high-speed and wireless internet.  There was also a flat-screen t.v and a small gas fireplace (ver cozy touch.) Both the bathroom and the room itself were very spacious. With the added comfort of the 2-inch mattress pad, we slept very well!

IMG_4455

(Top: Urban Planet, Pajama Bottoms: Old Navy)

Sunday morning we had an Easter brunch back in the city so unfortunately we didn’t get to stick around past 10:00 a.m. It was another beautiful day, I really did not want to leave! I brought home with me my two beautiful roses that were left on the bed as a reminder of our lovely time at Queen’s Landing.

Next time you are planning a visit to NOTL, whatever the occasion, be sure to check out Queen’s Landing, you will not be disappointed!

I can’t wait to visit again soon, thank you Queen’s Landing for a wonderful weekend getaway!

Stepping into Spring (style)

Stepping into Spring (style)

Trying to step into Spring with some transitional pieces but Mother Nature has different plans for me.

IMG_2949

This striped knit dress from H&M took me right through the Fall and Winter seasons by simple adding a leather jacket over top. The stretch of the fabric makes this dress so comfortable and hugs in all the right places. I love the slits on the hem of the dress, they are also on the hem of the sleeves, I’m a huge fan in little details like those.

IMG_2955

I styled it this time around with a sleek black leather jacket, small black and gold embellished belt, black booties with gold-detailed heel and my new favourite saddle bag from Coach. The burgundy tone of the bag was the perfect compliment to the stripe pattern on the dress.

IMG_2942

Hopefully soon I’ll be packing away the leather jacket/boots and bringing out the sandals, flow-y summer fabrics and prints, but for now I’ll continue rocking looks like this one!

Rainbow Grilled Cheese

Rainbow Grilled Cheese

Last summer rainbow grilled cheese took the social media world by storm! I first tried one at the Canadian National Exhibition in Toronto and decided one day I would make my own!

That day has finally come, I was not disappointed, and neither was my wallet when I saved $8 a pop by making one of these bad boys myself.

With St. Patrick’s Day just a day away, why not wow your friends with one of these!

IMG_2374

Find the recipe below for your very own goo-ey, “taste the rainbow” experience.

What you will need:

1 cup of your favourite cheese (shredded). I used mozzarella.

3-4 different food colouring shades of your choice

4 slices of bread

2 tablespoons of butter

1 tablespoon of sprinkles for garnish. I omitted it this time around but DEFINITELY including it the next time!

DIRECTIONS

  1. Divide your cup of cheese into separate bowls and mix in food colouring.
  2. Heat up your pan to medium-high. While you wait, spread butter on one side of each of the 4 pieces of bread.
  3. Place the butter side down, align cheese (I went horizontal, next time I will go vertical so the colours come out better when pulled apart). Top with the other slice of bread (butter side up!) Grill until golden brown and cheese is starting to melt. Flip, and grill for 2 more minutes.
  4. Remove your grilled cheese from the pan, spread with a little more butter and top with a little, or a lot of sprinkles!
  5. Enjoy the magic!

Fall Catwalk Beauty Trends 2016 Event

Fall Catwalk Beauty Trends 2016 Event

On September 8th I was lucky enough to be selected to attend Dave Lackie’s Fall Catwalk Beauty Trends 2016 Event at Hudson’s Bay Toronto.

image

Dave started the night off with some great stories of how he started in the industry and shared some funny experiences he had in his first jobs and celebrities he met along the way. Dave said how he followed his passion and that if you really love something and enjoy it,the money will come. Since starting my blog just two years ago, it’s opened me up to an entire world out there that I didn’t really know existed before. Once meeting Dave and all the other lucky guests that attend his events it ignited a spark in me to write more, take lots of pictures and share this passion with others.

image

Dave then talked about some of the hottest trends hitting the biggest catwalks this fall. I was pleasantly surprised to see dark  reds and even black shades for the “it” lipstick shade. I already went out and purchased one, can’t wait to test it out! Reds are still a hot colour for the season, which I especially love to rock around the holidays! Keeping the rest of your makeup more neutral and simple allows you to go for a bolder lip without overdoing it. We saw another trend of ombre lips which I think once I figured it out could be amazing!

Jumping forward, we got a sneak peek at some of the beauty trends coming our way in 2017. Orange is the colour in beauty for Spring 2017!

I had a really great time at this event, and learned so much about Global trends and all the intricate little details that designers put into their beauty products for us to enjoy. Let’s just say, I have really started to grow an appreciation for beauty products and I’m loving following the stories being told through the designers.

Thanks for another inspiring night Dave. I can’t thank you enough for the generous gift bag that you sent all of us home with. I’ll be travelling to Vegas at the end of the month and these minis are the perfect size to pack.

image

Can’t wait to see you, and everyone else’s beautiful faces and personalties again soon!

Givenchy- Art of Perfumery Dinner

Givenchy- Art of Perfumery Dinner

On June 14 I was so fortunate to be able to attend the Givenchy Art of Perfumery dinner hosted by the one and only, Dave Lackie (Beauty Editor and CityLine Expert). Dave is so inspiring and his passion radiates throughout the entire room down to every last detail. The dinner took place at the Arcadian Studio located in downtown Toronto (such a beautiful venue for these events!)

I think the themes of fun and happiness were evident through everyone throughout the whole night!

image

Read on to follow along with my truly amazing night, which Dave told me is just what beauty editors experience (how cool is that?!)

Get a behind-the-scenes look of my beauty editor experience here!

image

I loved the Gentleman Only scent so much. I later found out that a lot of women actually buy this scent for themselves, I quickly smelled why!

So much romance in the details from table to table!

image

image

Candy, perfume, and flowers, oh my!

image

I had previously been to one other dinner hosted by Dave at this location but this one really hit it out of the park. The second we walked in we were greeted with beautiful cocktails and you were instantly hit with the aromas of hundreds of blooms and Givenchy signature scents. I knew right away that it was going to be an amazing night.

image

There were perfume bottles both small and large (and I mean large!) surrounding the room, and every table had a beautiful bouquet of roses.

imageimage

My favourite of them all had to be the dinner table, talk about tablescape goals! I wish my dinner table could look like this every night!

image

image

Each place setting had a chic black and white Givenchy gift bag on the chair, with a beautiful single pink rose sticking out of the bag, such a special feeling getting to experience this!

image

image

image

After chatting away with fellow bloggers, artists and indulging in some wonderful hors d’oeuvres and cocktails we were seated for dinner.

image

We started off dinner with an incredible salad (didn’t think those words would ever come out of my mouth), but this was definitely a salad I could get on board with. It was so fresh with a delightful balsamic dressing and I loved the addition of chorizo and lots and lots of buffalo mozzarella cheese! For the main course we had a lemon/rosemary chicken that was so mouthwatering I enjoyed every last bite! It was placed on top of blistered navy beans, with a haricot and carrot salad with pickled cabbage and lemon. Now while I’m not big on dessert, I had to experience for myself what the most talked about artisan pecan pie was all about. For someone that doesn’t have a big sweet tooth even I enjoyed this and particularly enjoyed the cinnamon gelato.

image

image

image

image

image

Enough about the food already let’s get in to why we really wanted to attend this event!

Following our exquisite dinner we had the special guest for the night, David Titheridge -the General Manager of Givenchy share some lovely stories of the history of Givenchy and the Art of Perfumery. I really enjoyed the stories David told us about Hubert de Givenchy and his best friend Audrey Hepburn (AMAZING!!!!) and how he had created a fragrance that was exclusively hers for 2 years! Click on the link to Dave Lackie’s website if you’d like to learn more about the History of Givenchy.

image

image

image

As always, Dave was an amazing host to yet another amazing event. I am so very thankful for having been given the opportunity to attend this one and to catch up with some old friends Dave has connected me with and even meeting some fantastic new ones!

image

Katie of Boldly Beautiful and Jen of What the Damn TOTwo hilarious, and beautiful girls!

image

Our gift bag, or as I like to call them, our adult loot bag had inside it a bottle of Live Irresistible and Dahlia Divine. Live Irresistible is both floral and fruity and had a very fun scent. Dahlia Divine takes it a step further and introduces us to a luxury couture scent that is within reach of most budgets. I love the undertones of the jasmine, white flowers and sandalwood, this just may be one of my new faves! We also received a great makeup bag that I will be certainly be putting to use on my travels coming up. Our gift bags each had a single pink rose (can you say romantic?!)

Dave, you truly spoiled us and sure know how to make a girl feel like a million bucks!

Baby Blues + Her Majesty’s Pleasure Review

Baby Blues + Her Majesty’s Pleasure Review

When I saw this jacket on sale at Forever 21 I instantly fell in love with the soft material and beautiful baby blue shade! It isn’t a very warm coat but it’s a great coat for a girl’s day or night out if you want to have something different than an all-black coat.

I did in fact wear this for a girl’s day out! My friend and I checked out Her Majesty’s Pleasure in the heart of King West Village in Toronto and were treated to a wonderful manicure! The place itself was absolutely stunning with a vibrant atmosphere, I could have stayed in there all day and it was the best manicure I’ve ever had! There is a full-service bar so you can sip on drinks while being pampered, talk about feeling like a queen!  I’ll post some pictures below of the inside of Her Majesty’s Pleasure along with the polish we decided on! 🙂

Clarins Beauty VIP Dinner

Clarins Beauty VIP Dinner

download.png

A few months back I was fortunate enough to have a seat at Clarins Beauty VIP dinner hosted by Dave Lackie at the Arcadian Court in Toronto. I entered a contest that Dave Lackie posted on his Twitter, and I would have never thought I’d be lucky enough to win!

IMG_8805

I was especially excited about the special guest (Eric Antoniotti- Beauty Editor & Expert for Clarins!) I was even lucky enough to sit right across from him at our beautiful dinner from Oliver & Bonacini (pictured below.)

FullSizeRender (23).jpg

Not only was the dinner delicious it was also presented beautifully, just like everything else set up around the room!

FullSizeRender (19)

FullSizeRender (24).jpg

Of course the first thing that came to mind after I found out I was a lucky winner to attend as a guest was what on earth am I going to wear?!

With Clarins Beauty being internationally acclaimed  as a French luxury cosmetics company I knew I had to step it up a notch! I opted for a full skirt with mesh details, ankle-strap stilettos, a striped (Parisian-feel) shirt and of course, my favourite (accessories!), and not just any accessories, one with LOADS of bling!

See below for some of the pictures of the event along with my outfit details!

I couldn’t not use my Revlon lipstick print nail-stickers for the event, they couldn’t be more perfect!

I had SO much fun and I cannot thank Dave Lackie enough for choosing me to attend this absolutely beautiful event! I learned so much and met some other bloggers and beauty-lovers alike! I hope to be able to attend another one of his events sometime again soon! 🙂

Back at it!

Back at it!

Well well well…

It’s been WAY too long since my last post and I can’t believe how much time has gotten away from me!

I am really going to start trying to post more often! My Instagram account has started to take off (@staffordable_blog) and since it’s so quick to edit and post pictures on there my wordpress sort of got the shaft! 🙁

I am going to be playing a little bit of catch-up (okay, a lot of catch-up) so hang in there with me until I get back at it!

Outfit details:

Faux-leather skirt and lace-up flats both from Forever 21! I absolutely love these shoes and wish they sold them in every colour! They are such a huge trend right now and I was so lucky to have grabbed these for only $30.00 before they quickly sold out!

San Francisco trip (Outfit Edition)

San Francisco trip (Outfit Edition)

I will post details about the itinerary for the week, but for now I’ll just talk about my outfits (the most important part right??)

image

Of course I had to start the trip off with a San Fran shirt. I steered away from the classic touristy shirt and managed to snag this awesome Golden-Gate Bridge T-shirt on sale from Old Navy. It was super comfy for the flight!

imageimage

I did a quick change after doing some shopping when we first arrived. Since I knew San Fran can get sort of chilly at night I opted for printed silky pants and a white jean jacket. The pants and jacket are both from Forever 21. That night we visited the Top of The Mark Hotel and caught an AMAZING 360 view of the city with an unforgettable sunset. After a few drinks we headed over to dinner along the Embacadero and took in the breathtaking views of the water overlooking the Oakland Bay Bridge.

Day 2 brought with it a lot of hiking and walking around and wayyyy too much fun!

This was one of my favourite outfits. The Forever 21 jumpsuit was comfortable all day long especially paired with a classic white converse runner.  Since we visited Alcatraz that night this was my version of a prison jumpsuit. Something tells me I wouldn’t do well with prison attire…

image

photo (4) photo (5) photo (3)

Day 3- WHEN LIFE GIVES YOU LEMONS….

Day 3 brought more jumps and a lot more hiking!

I stuck with my white converse pairing them with a plain black t-shirt with a cross-cross back from Stiches and lemon print shorts from none other than, you guessed it…Forever 21!

image

FullSizeRender (1)

Day 4 we traded the hiking trails for bike trails! We rented bikes and biked through Baker Beach all the way across the Golden Gate Bridge and back again. The shorts are from Old Navy (featured on Lauren Conrad’s Instagram), the shirt is from Winners and the bobble necklace I picked up on sale at H&M while out shopping in Union Square in San Fran.

Day 5 was another trade. Traded in our runners and bikes for a convertible to drive down the coast! Both the skirt and lace cardigan are from Forever 21 and the mesh top is actually a workout top from Winners–perfect on this very hot day! My floppy hat with small gold feather-detail is from H&M and my rings (snake- Suzy Shier, middle rings are three different Pandora rings stacked together)
